Larkin’s Restaurant Group, one of the Upstate’s premier restaurant companies, will begin preparing weekend backpack meals for students at the school district’s nine elementary schools, Greenville County Schools announced Tuesday, Oct. 27.

euphoria Greenville has agreed to fund the program that will go until the week of Dec. 7.

The meals will be given out to students at A.J. Whittenberg, Alexander, Armstrong, Berea, Cherrydale, Duncan Chapel, Hollis, Monaview and Thomas E. Kerns Elementary Schools.

“We could not be more thankful for our amazing partnerships with euphoria Greenville and Larkin’s. This is an incredible opportunity for the students at these nine GCS locations,” said GCS food and nutrition services director Joe Urban. “Greenville is not only a great place to live and work, it is also a place that understands community and the need to work together to make a difference in the lives of its residents.”

Larkin’s chef Adam Hayes and his team will make meals for more than 3,300 students across the county. The meals will be cooked at Larkin’s catering facility, then delivered to the schools, according to the district. The students will receive one pre-cooked, frozen, take-and-bake tray on Fridays that will cover meals over two days.

“This partnership with these two organizations is going to ensure that every student at each of these nine GCS locations has access to high-quality nutrition on the weekends,” Urban said.
